On Saturday February 4, 2017, LAASFUND held its first Parents’ conference.
The Purpose of this conference was for parents of beneficiaries to know more about LAASFUND as an organization and to meet the LAASFUND team.
LAASFUND CEO Hanna Atiase introduced herself after the opening prayer by Pastor Divine Galley. Hanna shared a story about the birth of LAASFUND; how she pledged to a friend to start a scholarship foundation for girls after observing there were not many girls graduating from college during her time in college.
Hanna recapped LAASFUND’s progress by mentioning Eva Attoh Okine, a beneficiary who graduated from Culinary School in December on a LAASFUND scholarship, Miriam Galley who is in her third year at the University of Ghana, Legon and preparing to travel to Canada on an Exchange program to be sponsored by LAASFUND, Abigail Abankwa is currently working as an Administrative assistant at Atiase Portfolio Investment whilst waiting for her admission to the University. Lawrencia Mensah is also studying at the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana.
She encouraged parents to complement LAASFUND’s support by getting books for their wards to increase their vocabulary and make them more articulate and by making sure their wards use their time judiciously and engaging in fruitful activities.
Project Manager, Nana Ampem-Darko Opare took his turn to talk about the LAASFUND Entrepreneurship Development Fund where individuals with innovative ideas are encouraged through financial support and mentorship. Nana also shared with parents; LAASFUND’s vision to tap into the Agricultural sector by starting farms to generate revenue so as to not be dependent on donations.
LAASFUND Counselor Bianca Boaitey who served as the MC went on to assure parents their wards were in good and safe hands. She explained to parents Bible study sessions she has had with the girls and the one on one counseling sessions meant as an opportunity for the girls to share personal thoughts and challenges if any.
It was a fun and healthy conference. Parents couldn’t hide their joy and gratitude to LAASFUND. They took turns to speak and express their gratitude. They prophesied great things for LAASFUND in the coming years and thanked the CEO and LAASFUND team; Hanna Atiase for giving their wards the opportunity to fulfill their purpose through the channel of Education.
LAASFUND team thanked parents for being part of the conference and are looking forward to the next meeting.
